Akai Headrush E1

In the late 90’s Akai released the Headrush E1 a digital delay and looper. With a “tape echo” setting to mimic the warmth and idiosyncrasies of a vintage tape delay.

One of the coolest is that each of the 4 “tape heads” has it’s own output. Meaning you can set them to a different delay time and send them to a separate amp making for some very expansive soundscapes. You can actually surround yourself in sound if you’ve got enough amps on hand.

Bands like Animal Hospital, Common Cold, Don Caballero, and Helms all put this pedal to good use.

Looper’s Delight has an in-depth review from Alan Imberg written in 1999.
